Home Precautions For Valentines Day
Valentines Day is right around the corner. And when love is in the air, the last thing you want to think about is home insurance.
Fortunately, if you’re proactive about home safety, you can focus on romance, without worrying about potential claims. Here are a few Valentines Day-related areas where a little precaution can go a long way.
If Your Valentines Gift Barks
What is cuter than a new puppy for your valentine? A new loyal companion can give you love for many happy years.
The reality is that sometimes a dog’s behavior can go wrong. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention have researched 20+ years of reported dog bite-related fatalities and have found the top five breeds:
- Pit bull
- Rottweiler
- German Shepherd
- Husky
- Malamute
Dogs are the leading source of claims under homeowners liability coverage. With proper training, any dog’s chances of hurting someone go down significantly.
Valentine Candles Should Spark Romance, Not The Drapes!
What is better for creating the romantic Valentines Day mood than a favorite dinner at home by candlelight?
But be careful that those candles do not ignite something you did not intend! Use these tips from the National Candle Association on candle safety:
- Be sure candles are extinguished before you leave the room.
- Keep clothing, blankets, & pillows away from lit candles
- Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface
- Burning candles should be at least 3 inches apart, and not near vents or other air currents
- Ensure the room is well ventilated
By taking these precautions, you can spend Valentines Day the way you planned and not filing a home insurance claim!
